Invited by Brigadier General Carmel Vassallo, Maltese Chief of Defence, the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee, Gen. Bentégeat, visited Malta and its Armed Forces (AFM). CEUMC was given a direct overview of the Maltese military responsibilities and capabilities, with particular attention to the role of the AFM in the surveillance of the significant civilian maritime traffic in the region.
CEUMC was also honoured to meet Dr. Lawrence Gonzi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Malta, with whom he had an exchange of views on the Maltese contributions to the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP).
