The Chairman of the European Union Military Committee, Gen. Bentégeat, visited the Ministry of Defence of Portugal and the Portuguese Armed Forces General Staff. Gen. Luis Valença Pinto, Portuguese Chief of Defence, and his staff provided CEUMC with a thorough presentation of the mission, ambitions, transformation process of the Portuguese Armed Forces, as well as their actual commitments in crisis managements operations.
Gen. Bentégeat also met the State Secretaries for National Defence and for European Affairs, who underlined the attention Portugal pays to the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) and, in particular, to the actions and activities aimed at supporting stability and capacity building in Africa.
