The Chairman of the European Union Military Committee, Gen. Syrén, visited Italy upon invitation of the Italian Chief of Defence (CHOD), Gen. Vincenzo Camporini. During his staying in Rome, CEUMC met the President of the Republic, the Minister of the Defence, and had an open and complete discussion on all ongoing security issues with the Undersecretary for Defence, Mr. Giuseppe Cossiga.

Moreover, in the General Staff he was given a detailed presentation about the capabilities and the commitments of the Italian Armed Forces, with a specific focus on international cooperation activities and military interventions.

Finally, Gen. Syrén visited the Italian Operation Headquarters (OHQ), within which is located one of the five national OHQs declared available to the European Union for Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) operations.
