Ce jeudi 10 novembre, au Commissariat Général de la Police nationale congolaise (PNC), a eu lieu la remise officielle de 26 véhicules, 750 radios portatives, 60 radios mobiles et 20 stations fixes à la Légion nationale d’intervention (LENI, ex-Police d’intervention rapide) de la PNC. Ce matériel, don de la France et de la Délégation de l’Union européenne en RDC, a été remis en présence des autorités politiques et policières congolaises.

The Council welcomed the work of EUPOL RD Congo in supporting the reform of the
Congolese national police and its interaction with the justice sector, in particular recent
positive results, such as the submission of the draft Organic Law for the Police to the
Congolese National Assembly. The Council also noted the adoption of other significant
documents such as the Police Action Plan and the important coordination work conducted by
the Comité de Suivi de la Réforme de la Police (CSRP).
The Council welcomed the work started by the mission antennas in Goma and Bukavu and
the reinforced effort in the area of criminal investigation, including the fight against impunity
and sexual violence.

The Council welcomed the work of EUPOL RD Congo in supporting the reform of the Congolese national police and its interaction with the justice sector. Notwithstanding the security situation in the country, which remains volatile, this reform is beginning to achieve some positive results, such as the submission of the draft Organic Law for the Police to the Congolese National Assembly. The Council encouraged the Congolese authorities to proceed with passing this important law in a timely manner. The Council also noted the important coordination work conducted by the Comité de Suivi de la Réforme de la Police (CSRP) and invited all partners to further the coordination efforts in the field of police reform.
The Council welcomed the deployment of the mission in Goma and Bukavu and the reinforced effort in the area of criminal investigation, including the fight against sexual violence and impunity, through the deployment of additional specialised personnel. The mission's mandate has been extended until 30 June 2010.

The Council welcomed the work of the EUPOL RD Congo Mission in supporting the reform of the Congolese national police and its interaction with justice.
The Council noted the decision on setting up a Project Cell within EUPOL RD Congo with a complementary approach in order to implement small projects within the mission's mandate and also to provide reinforced coordination and technical assistance to Member States and Third States that so require to their own projects and under their own responsibility.
The extension of the mission's mandate until 30 June 2010 has been agreed in principle.

The Council expressed its grave concern at the serious developments which have recently occurred in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). With respect to Security Sector Reform (SSR), the Council reaffirmed the need to continue the efforts undertaken in support of the local authorities.
The Council supports the efforts of the EUPOL RD Congo Mission to assist with the reform of the Congolese national police and its interaction with justice. The Council took note of the planned deployment of the mission in the east of the DRC
